Once known as the Persian Greyhound or the gazelle hound, the Saluki has long been considered one of the most ancient of breeds.  They’re fast as the wind, elegant in appearance, and quietly devoted to their people. An ancient breed of sighthound that originated in the Middle East, Salukis are known for their graceful and elegant appearance. These highly active dogs enjoy long walks, runs, and hikes, and they also love to play fetch. Any movement, be it a squirrel, cat, or radio-controlled car, will activate the Saluki’s instinct to chase, and his speed has been clocked at 30 to 35 miles per hour! Salukis are not good watchdogs, as they are not naturally aggressive. However, they are good at alerting their owners to strangers.
